The Perfect Curry Puff

Why do I love curry puffs? Why do I keep searching for the ideal curry puff? My memory of eating curry puff goes as far back to the time when I was 9 years old. I was in primary three then, in a neighbourhood primary school called Kebun Baru Primary School. It was a new school where I was the pioneer batch to have begun classes since Primary 1. During that time, the school building wasn't even ready and we had to put up at another school's premise. I remember soon after about a year or so, we moved into the new school building. It was fantastic because the new school compound was within short walking distance from our home. The only peeve was that getting to or away from my home to school required one to walk up/down a very long flight of steps, since our block of flats was situated on a pretty steep slope. I had counted 80 steps once. What comforted me was that I had the luxury of playing at a playground between my home and the school everyday with my neighbours before d...

A new start

I just 'redesigned' the look and header of this blog. Some things are waiting to be shared but I need to think them through these few days while I wrap up my current projects ( http://www.facebook.com/sharehappySingapore ), and before I start on new ones (yes I already have work confirmed and lined up till end of October). For now, I shall talk about the movie INCEPTION and what it means to me. I watched INCEPTION yesterday and was inspired both personally and professionally. The story is an interesting one, to say the least. The plot engaging but I half suspect that a large number of Singaporeans may find it tedious, preferring popcorn fare such as Prince of Persia to this. This is not to say Singaporeans are generally lazy or stupid. Our lives sometimes just make us choose what is easier when picking entertainment, away from work's grind; without having to think so hard. Short of going into the a review and analysis of the film (for the review, you can find ...

Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath

Overnight, very Whitely, discreetly, Very quietly Our toes, our noses Take hold on the loam, Acquire the air. Nobody sees us, Stops us, betrays us; The small grains make room. Soft fists insist on Heaving the needles, The leafy bedding, Even the paving. Our hammers, our rams, Earless and eyeless, Perfectly voiceless, Widen the crannies, Shoulder through holes. We Diet on water, On crumbs of shadow, Bland-mannered, asking Little or nothing. So many of us! So many of us! We are shelves, we are Tables, we are meek, We are edible, Nudgers and shovers In spite of ourselves. Our kind multiplies: We shall by morning Inherit the earth. Our foot's in the door.

New Song

Wrote a new song yesterday using Finale Notepad. The title is tentatively called 'God be my guide', written for SATB with harp/keyboard accompaniment and an a cappella section. Hope to buy a midi keyboard soon so I don't have to write in note by note then

I took this test when I was 17 years old. Now I'm 31. Some things never change, it seems. You Are An INTJ The Scientist You have a head for ideas - and you are good at improving systems. Logical and strategic, you prefer for everything in your life to be organized. You tend to be a bit skeptical. You're both critical of yourself and of others. Independent and stubborn, you tend to only befriend those who are a lot like you. In love, you are always striving to improve your relationship. You have strong ideas of what love should be like. At work, you excel in figuring out difficult tasks. People think of you as "the brain." You would make an excellent scientist, engineer, or programmer. How you see yourself: Reasonable, knowledgeable, and competent When other people don't get you, they see you as: Aloof, controlling, and insensitive What's Your Personality Type?

好久不见

I found this song accidentally, when a friend lent it to me by Eason Chan, whom I usually don't listen to. I found the words to be very meaningful and discovered that it was actually written by a Singaporean. Sometimes I think about life and the people whom we meet, the times that has passed. I try to appreciate what I have before they are lost forever for one reason or another. I can be a very loyal person and sometimes too sentimental. When I listen to a song, I listen to it for it's lyrics for a few times, then it's construction in terms of progression, instrumentation, musical development and so on... I've listened to this song ad nausem for more than 150 times in le...

OK so I use Mac. I also use PCs. While it's a myth that the Mac does not crash and or give problems, the above is quite true.

Looking for Ex-Classmates Missing in Action

I've decided to tap on the power of the crawling servers, search engines etc to find these people who have reported missing since eons we left school in the Class of 1992, 4D, Raffles Institution. Apparently many of these people mentioned have no web pages linked to them or were linked to outdated pages. In this age... it's getting easier for me to locate people. Hypertext links are like paper trails now. If for some reason you decided to search for the names below and you know how to locate them (Yes, including you narcissistic 'self-searching' MIA people), please contact me so that I can follow up. No Snakes on my Plane

It's been a while since I last had an entry. I'd just returned from a 2-week break to Milan-Como-Zermatt-Zürich-Lucerne-Amsterdam-Paris. Phew. It's one of those rare occasions when we have a break in the movie calendar. Soon James Bond's Casino Royale will be driving me mad. It's Open Season and I'm going to get a Nightmare Before Christmas as well, with a Curse of the Golden Flower notwithstanding. I just hope The Guardian will watch over me. You see, I have The Covenant to keep with the client. Should I find the time, I'll tell you some Tales from Earthsea. Have I said it before? Seems like Déja Vu. So much for rambling and corny attempts to be funny. I should try harder. sigh. As my good friend would say... HAO LIAN. OK, what I want talk about is the Internet phenomenon called Snakes on a Plane. I just need to have my piece on cyberspace after travelling more than 17 hours (including a stop-over) on a plane (what else?). While so much has been discussed a...

Singapore Auntie Fighting in Lift

This auntie can fight with the Hong Kong Bus Uncle!!! See him here at Youtube you will see many remix variation of his fighting! There's Sammi Cheng version, 十面埋伏 version, Rap version, 黑社会 version, Adagio for Strings version, Sodomy version! This auntie is really EH SAI! Actually can't make out why she did what she did. People with money but no Grace.... hmmm where can I find the George Knightleys from Jane Austen's Emma in Singapore? I will find time to do up remix version to support the Singapore auntie version!

Campaign Planning

Wah lao... last Saturday was Polling Day. I woke up and like Mr Brown ... went to do many many things. I started at 8am at Toa Payoh and was round the whole island doing something...(secret! cannot say, even though polling day is over) until 2pm. I went to Bedok wanting to eat the nice nice Bak Chor Mee with nice nice ter gnua (No, not the Mr Brown one!) but ended up eating the lao ya 高记 yong tau foo. Usually the latter's not too bad at other branches but this one at Bedok Central was the nua nua type. Then I went to the gym and then I wen to VOTE and then I out to work the ground (i.e. for my movie campaign!) some more. I want to move on to other things besides The Da Vinci Code. My mum did something 'wah-piang' that day. Wanting to make sure she knows how to make a proper cross in the ballot paper, I asked her if she knows how to vote (she's more experienced than I am actually, but she last voted more than 10 years ago, so I thought I want to remind her). she ...
